This unot provides the opportunity for students to evaluate common communicable disease control strategies in the provinces and country. Students carry out inspections and investigations and record the findings and submit reports to the Provincial Disease Control Officers.Some of the important communicable diseases are:

1) Typhoid

3) Leprosy

4) Sexually Transmitted Illness

5) Malaria

6) HIV/AIDS

The Unit covers the Esssential primary Clinical management of trauma and other Medical emergencies especially from a rural context in PNG.

In this unit students are introduced to the clinical core unit Obstetrics and Gynaecology.This unit deals with the human reproductive system.Areas discussed include

-Anatomy of the reproductve system in human

-human sexuality

adolescent health

- pregnancy and childbirth

-disorders of the reproductive system

The unit also encompasses on family planning as the pathway to safemotherhood and improved maternal health.
