The traditional ties and relationships, which nurtured previous generations in PNG, face new tensions today as urbanisation and economic development force social change. In this unit students will develop the skills to research and examine contemporary family, community and social issues so that they can understand their impact on society. Students will read and respond to relevant news articles and academic literature in the light of their own experiences of growing up in PNG society.

Students will be encouraged to creatively apply their news story and feature writing skills to produce material suitable for publication.

Teaching will be by lecture, tutorial, independent research, classroom discussion and presentation.
